About USLifeGuide
Our Mission
USLifeGuide exists to answer one question clearly: what are the rules where you live?
The United States has 50 states, and those states often have very different laws — for driving, drinking, voting, marriage, gambling, taxes, and more. Finding accurate, up-to-date answers to these questions can be surprisingly hard. Official government websites are scattered across dozens of domains. Legal resources are written for lawyers, not everyday people.
We built USLifeGuide to change that: one place, plain English, accurate to your specific state.
What We Cover
- Legal ages by state — driving, drinking, voting, marriage, gambling, cannabis, tobacco, contracts, and retirement ages for all 50 states and DC.
- Personal finance basics — the US tax system, federal and state tax brackets, how credit scores work, types of bank accounts, and Social Security basics.
- Free tools — a legal age checker, tax bracket estimator, and net salary calculator, all running client-side with no data collection.
Our Data Sources
We take data accuracy seriously — especially for a YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) site where incorrect information could genuinely harm someone. Our data comes from:
- National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) — the gold standard for state law comparisons across the US.
- Individual state government websites — DMV sites, state legislature databases, and official government portals.
- IRS.gov — for federal tax bracket and FICA data.
- Social Security Administration (SSA.gov) — for retirement age and benefit information.
Our data is reviewed and updated on a regular schedule. When state laws change, we update our records — and we monitor NCSL for recent legislative activity.
Editorial Standards
We follow strict editorial guidelines to ensure the information on this site is accurate, fair, and genuinely useful:
- State-specific accuracy— we never generalize across states when laws differ. Alabama's age of majority is 19, not 18 — we show the correct age for each state.
- Data-first content — our articles are built on verified JSON data files for legal ages and tax brackets. Prose explains the data — it does not invent it.
- Transparency about limitations — we are not a law firm, and this site is not legal advice. We clearly state this on every relevant page.
- Regular updates — laws change. We have automated monitoring for legislative changes and update affected pages promptly.
